-
- Zync is a file synchronization application designed for PowerBooks.
-
- Its purpose is to copy files back and forth between your PowerBook and a desktop
- computer, but it can be used to synchronize files between any two hardisks or
- computers on an AppleTalk network.
-
- HISTORY:
-
- *Version 1.0a2:
- Compatible with AutoDoubler™ from Salient Software.
-
- *Version 1.0a3:
- The lenght of the local path name could get changed, causing the local
- volume not to be found.
- The remote server was almost never found.
- Error messages have been added for a few possible server related errors
- such as unknown user name, password, and server not found.
- Command-Period stops the file copy at any time.
- If the folder paths are not found, do not copy files to the desktop !
-
- *Version 1.0a4
- Zync remembers the last time and date when synchronization was done. This
- is to prevent the application from copying a newer file over another file
- which has also been modified. When Zync encounters files which have both
- been modified, it tells you the file name and displays a dialog telling
- you to look into the files and copy the good one yourself.
-
- A new menu item called Reset Last Zync Time can be used to temporarily
- override this feature. This can be used when you know for sure that the
- latest version really has all the contents of the older but also modified
- version.
-
- A new menu item can be used to specify wheather files that have been
- compressed should be copied in their compressed form. This can be used when
- both computers use the compression software to speed up the copy process.
-
-
- DESCRIPTION:
-
- Put Zync on either computer, then configure it by selecting a "remote" and
- a "local" folder from the Setup item in the Zync menu. In the Setup dialog
- you asked to enter information regarding the "remote" volume. Zync can
- automatically mount and unmount the remote volume in order to do the file
- synchronization, so setup need to be done only once.
-
- To synchronize your files, select "Zync Now" from the Zync menu. If the
- remote volume is not present then Zync will mount it. Once the remote and
- local volumes are found, Zync looks at every file and folder in the local
- and remote volumes from the point where the "Remote Path" and "Local Path"s
- start, copy files and folders from one disk to the other so that both
- folders contain the latest files and folders found on either disk from the
- starting folder paths.
-
- If you have AutoDoubler™ Installed in both computers, you may want to enable
- the option "Keep Compressed files Compressed" under the Zync menu. This
- option will make sure that files already compressed will not be decompressed
- before copying, thus making the file copy faster specially when using Apple
- Remote Access.
-
- Zync can be distributed freely. Enjoy.
